How Prayer Times Are Calculated

SunriseTime calculates prayer times using Medellín's geographic coordinates (latitude 6.2450°, longitude -75.5715°) and the NOAA solar position algorithm. Fajr is determined when the sun reaches a specific angle below the horizon before dawn — 18° for the Muslim World League method. Dhuhr begins just after solar noon. Asr timing depends on the juristic school: the Standard (Shafi'i) method triggers when an object's shadow equals its height plus the noon shadow length, while the Hanafi method uses twice the object height.
